Wellington Operational Support Unit is a volunteer Fire and Emergency NZ brigade that supports emergency response throughout the wider
Wellington region.

Operational Support Senior Station Officer and the Officer in Charge of Wellington Operational Support Unit

Achievements:

  • Growing the membership from five to over 20 personnel with
    many more on a wait-list

  • Leading personnel at critical emergency incidents including
    in the aftermath of the Kaikoura earthquakes

  • Increasing community fire safety knowledge at events
    including Life Flight Open Day and A Very Welly Christmas

  • Securing an AMI Community Grant of $4,000 that went
    towards emergency response equipment

  • Building the diversity of our members

Responsibilities: 

  • Day to day brigade management 

  • Co-ordinating and attending emergency responses

  • Developing and presenting business plans 

  • Overseeing all brigade finances including grants and fundraising 

  • Writing and presenting the Annual Reports

  • Chairing meetings

  • Overseeing weekly training nights 

  • Leading the development and implementing succession plans for staff

  • Staff mentoring through regular one-on-one meetings

  • Recruitment and defining roles

  • Human resources - Employment relations and personnel issues

  • Reporting to Fire and Emergency NZ Area Management

  • Co-ordinating planning, resources and training with other brigades

  • Facilitating Volunteer Leadership Development training
