The NZ Police Association Bravery Award and Memorial Pin are very special to me as they acknowledge the dedication and sacrifice that NZ Police demonstrate.
I developed multiple concepts for each, working with internationally renowned industrial and product designer, Ian Anderson to prototype and produce the NZ Police Association Bravery Award. Crafted from stainless steel, solid brass and pounamu, the award reflects the mana and respect that the recipients gained through their heroic actions. Based on the taurapa of a waka taua, it represents the protection that the NZ Police provide our community.
The NZ Police Association Memorial Pin was created to honour and remember NZ Police officers who have lost their life in the line of duty. Proceeds from the sales of the pin go towards supporting the families of killed officers.
The design is based on a huia feather which includes a cut, signifying loss and endorned with the blue NZ Police chevron.
Multiple prototypes were tested to ensure it was safe to wear on uniforms.
